Chapter Twelve

She dropped the cell phone on her night table, it had been entirely too easy to quit, but immediately afterwards it made her feel adrift and unsure. Mostly because she wasn’t sure how things worked here just yet. Yes, she was part of a supernatural team of hunters that took down killers and protected mankind, but the rest of it was still a question mark.

She brushed out her hair using the large mirror above her dresser, and just left the stretchy shorts and t-shirt on. She was pretty sure right after breakfast she’d be sparring with Cinna, so there was no point in changing to something a bit nicer, or in taking a shower. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to take four of those today, like she had yesterday. She didn’t have that many outfits here.

She froze as she got to the door. She was very old, did she have hidden assets and riches of her own? It was a startling thought, and one that made no difference, at least not if or until she remembered her past.

She left her room and headed for the dining room. Cinna was asleep, but everyone else was already eating. She froze again, as she wondered how she knew that. She didn’t have her hearing enhanced right now, the idea of it always being enhanced like in those fictional stories sounded like torture to her. Almost as bad as walking around scenting everything all the time.

She guessed she might have been subconsciously accessing the web for that information, it was always there after all, and she had her sphere witch shield and her soul eater emotional transmitter and receiver set up on it. It wasn’t unreasonable as a guess to how she just knew where they all were, but she just knew they were down there regardless of the reason. She also needed to practice with the latter part of that, sending emotions. Receiving emotions was easy, it was always on and always at the strength and distance where she’d set it last. That hadn’t been in the equation though, right now she had it set for the same twenty percent or so, and limited to a room size.

There was an easy way to check, she vaguely wondered about Lina, one of the women she liked from work. She got the immediate sense she was in the shower getting ready for work, and even had a vague sense of where Lina’s apartment was.

Witches were apparently scary that way, because she was rather startled. It was like having GPS on everyone she knew. Witches were the original big brother. She snickered at that thought, and had a wide smile going when she walked into the dining room.

“Morning.”

Her stomach rumbled when she sat down, and she found herself piling alarming amounts scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast onto her plate. She just went with it, confident her body would fill out where she wanted it to, and not where she didn’t. Once she’d got it to the right place she’d have to slow down though, it had to go somewhere.
